The Fairest Lord Jesus lyrics proclaim that Jesus is fairer than beautiful meadows, woodlands, sunshine, moonlight, twinkling stars and angels in Heaven.
The description “fairer” is inspired by Psalm 45:2
2 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Psalm 45:2
The lyrics were supposedly penned in 1667 in German. Different people have contributed to the current English translation. One of them being Joseph A. Seiss in 1873. The melody was composed in 1842.
When I encounter nature, I often feel a sense of awe and wonder at God’s creation. A song of praise and glory rises up. Fairest Lord Jesus goes further by reminding me that Jesus is the ruler of all nature. He is fairer than all. All glory to Him.
Fairest Lord Jesus Lyrics
Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature O Thou of God and man the Son Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honour Thou my soul's glory, joy and crown Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands Robed in the blooming garb of spring Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer Who makes the woeful heart to sing Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight And all the twinkling starry host Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels heaven can boast Beautiful Saviour, Lord of the nations Son of God and Son of Man Glory and honour, praise, adoration Now and forevermore be Thine
