Were you told that our prayers should not be selfish? That it should not be indulgent? I was. It seems like to pray for our own wants and desires is not acceptable to God. But Jabez’s prayer seems pretty selfish to me. And God granted him what he requested.
I know such prayers should not be the only type of prayer we pray. In fact, prayer is conversation with God, it goes beyond requests.
But it has encouraged me to bring my heart’s desire to Abba God without shame.

Prayer of Jabez The Book
This little prayer was brought to the fore by a little book called The Prayer of Jabez: breaking through to the blessed life written by Bruce Wilkinson.
It is not a long book. But God likes to use the small to conquer the world. It was published in 2001 and although 18 years old, it is still in print.
